Frequently Asked Questions
Is HCT a homeschool program?
Yes. HCT remains a homeschool tutorial, not a traditional school. Parents continue to serve as the primary educators, with HCT offering a structured, supportive academic framework, classroom instruction two days per week, and guidance for home learning.

Is HCT an Umbrella?
HCT is not a homeschool umbrella. Parents who choose to place their children in the HCT program are individually responsible for their legal standing with the State of Maryland and local school board. Therefore, parents are required to register their children with a homeschool umbrella or St. Mary’s County Public Schools. HCT does not issue credits, transcripts or other legal documentation.
What does “all-inclusive program” mean?
Our all-inclusive hybrid model includes:
-
Selected, Biblically grounded curriculum
-
Structured lesson plans for home and classroom days
-
Regular academic assessments
-
Two full days of in-person instruction
-
Qualified tutors
-
A Christ-centered learning community
Families no longer need to piece together multiple resources on their own—HCT provides a cohesive academic plan.
How will classrooms be structured by grade level?
Kindergarten–2nd Grade:
Students will remain in self-contained classrooms, providing consistency, relational stability, and developmentally appropriate instruction.
Grades 3–8:
Students will receive subject-specific instruction from tutors specializing in math, science, social studies, literature and grammar, art, physical education, and music.
This structure allows students to grow academically while benefiting from tutors with focused expertise.

What will classroom days look like?
In-person classroom days will emphasize hands-on, interactive, and creative learning experiences. Tutors will guide students through the curriculum using discussions, projects, experiments, and hands-on activities that reinforce concepts and encourage critical thinking—all through a Biblical worldview.

How will parents be supported at home?
Parents will receive clear lesson plans, expectations, and pacing guidance. Our goal is to reduce uncertainty and overwhelm by providing structure, support, and partnership, while respecting each family’s homeschool rhythm.

Is HCT still committed to Biblical instruction?
Absolutely. All subjects at HCT are taught through a Biblical worldview, and our mission remains unchanged: to equip students academically, spiritually, and personally for a lifetime of service to God and others.

Who can we contact with questions?
We welcome continued communication with our families. Questions, feedback, or concerns may be directed to the HCT leadership team or Board. We value partnership and believe open communication strengthens our community.

Intentional Curriculum Planning
Our leadership team prayerfully and thoughtfully researches and selects curriculum for all subjects and grade levels, allowing families to focus on supporting their child’s learning rather than navigating curriculum choices.
Clear and Consistent Academic Structure
Parents will receive weekly lesson plans that provide clear structure for the homeschool days, while preserving the flexibility families value. These lesson plans will be distributed monthly, at the beginning of each month, and will outline expectations, assignments, and pacing for the entire month at a glance.
Classroom Structure by Grade Level
To better serve students developmentally, we are refining our classroom model:
• Kindergarten through 2nd Grade: Students will remain in self-contained classrooms, fostering consistency, relational connection, and age-appropriate instruction.
• Grades 3 through 8: Students will transition to subject-specific instruction, taught by tutors specializing in areas such as math, science, social studies, literature and grammar, art, physical education, and music.
Engaging, Hands-On Learning
Classroom days at HCT will emphasize hands-on, creative, and interactive learning experiences. Tutors will actively guide students through the curriculum using projects, discussions, experiments, and activities that reinforce concepts and encourage critical thinking always grounded in a Biblical worldview.
